NO DISCOUNT

Never on Sale

Sixty years.

This is no longer the age of infinite choices. Nevertheless, it remains the age of posture.

During a job interview she sat in front of me: beautiful, competent, almost surgical in tone.

“Everyone has a price.”

Then she presented the offer. The figure was precise, cold, and calculated. Three months trial. Taxes included.

However, the amount was less than what I spent on frivolities in thirty days.

She leaned forward.

“And yours, what is it?”

I stood up.

“Whatever figure you have in mind… it is surely much more.”

The door remained half open.

There was no goodbye.

Certain men simply cannot be bought.

What Cannot Be Paid For

THE BRIDGE

Once I entered that shop as a rich customer. Today I enter as a poor man. Nevertheless, tomorrow I will return rich again.

The difference, after all, is only the calendar.

The salesgirl listened while I spoke. At first, she seemed surprised by my calm. Then she smiled.

“Thank you for letting me have what cannot be paid for.”

Some things are never purchased.

Instead, they are recognized.

Recognition

Later I noticed a man wearing a flat cap.

Seventy years old. Natural class.

I shook his hand, yet he did not recognize me.

“You were one of the most elegant men in my city.”

He looked at me carefully, almost suspicious.

“Are you mocking me?”

“No. We were among the first to lease from you. Eighty million lire. My mother admired your manners. And everyone always recognized you as a man of honor.”

This was not about money.
Nor was it about success.

It was about honor.

The Value

Losing weight is not aesthetics.
Refusing an offer is not pride.
Likewise, entering a shop without buying is not nostalgia.

Instead, it is something else.

It is the decision not to discount that cannot be paid.

Because value is never on sale.

Money measures many things. However, posture measures value.

And true posture is never on sale.

Conclusion

Life places small decisions in front of you. For example, a pair of pants that no longer fit. Or a proposal that does not deserve an answer.

Sometimes it is a salesgirl who sees you. At other times it is a man who no longer remembers you.

However, those precise moments reveal who you truly are.

Not what you possess.
Not what you lose.
Not what you earn.

But what you refuse to discount.

Because value is never on sale.
